“Sebayon” means to help people to learn to serve themselves. We believe through our service we will impart consciousness about positive values and to grow useful skill to improve the STANDARD AND QUALITY of life of the people of this community.

Most of the people are originally from Mushidabad and some are from Bangladesh. There are 97 families at both the side of the railway line. Total population is 615. Average number of member per family is 6. The family income, husband and wife together, about 5000 per month. Rs.833 per head, per month which means 28 rupees per day = 0.32 Euro per head per day.

The people of this area are employed in unorganised sector on “no work –no pay” basis. Types of work are hawking in the train, house construction work, earth cutting etc. The females are engaged in house cleaning and sales of vegetable from door to door.

The scarcity in their daily life keep them busy to fight for small things enhancing jealousy, anger and hatred but still there is love and concern for their children and so we have started the “Sebayon” Project to tap the resources lying dormant in their heart by way of offering possibilities for their children and refining their emotions through education, generating cultural skills and values.

They live in a basic bamboo structure, mud floor, earth tiles roof huts without any toilets, drain or kitchen. We have introduced electricity, community drinking water now we are trying to introduce Low cost latrines and the small community hall already put up by bamboos will be extended and improved.

Our objectives are to ensure child education and improve their socio-cultural values and prepare them to be a responsible and healthy future citizen, to improve the mothers and adolescent girls health which are very problematic there and to improve community infrastructure.
