Success Story Of Maloti Das
case studyInspiring Success Story: Maloti Das
Ms. Maloti Das, a resident of Lalkuthi, Bhadreswar, Hooghly, is a shining example of how determination, resilience, and opportunity can transform a life. Maloti lost her father to liver disease when she was only five years old, leaving her mother to raise four young children—two sons and two daughters—under very difficult circumstances. The family lived in a small 10 ft. × 8 ft. hut with a bamboo frame and an earthen-tile roof, without a kitchen or washroom, and relied on a railway tube well for drinking water. Her mother worked tirelessly as a domestic help in the neighborhood to sustain the family.
In 2008, Human Wave began working in their slum community and started a tutorial center for local children. Maloti joined the center as a student of Class IV and received educational guidance and study materials. Recognizing her sincerity and potential, she was included in the Educational Sponsorship Programme from Class V onward, through which she received full educational support.
Alongside academic assistance, Maloti also participated in Human Wave’s dance and drama activities, performing regularly on stages of various youth clubs and community events. She took part in cultural exposure visits, gaining valuable experiences that helped her grow in confidence, creativity, and communication. Human Wave also supported her family with medical expenses during times of illness.
Through perseverance and consistent effort, Maloti successfully completed her schooling and went on to establish a stable professional career. She is presently employed as a Marketing Executive at Bandhan Bank Limited. With her earnings, she has been able to purchase a piece of land and aspires to build a home for her family. She is also continuing her education to enhance her career prospects further.
Maloti expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Human Wave for the support and opportunities that shaped her journey—from a life of hardship to one of dignity, self-reliance, and hope. Her story stands as a testament to the life-changing power of education and community support.
